ORGANISING CHALLENGE
A number of new posts of Local Organiser are about to be
advertised within UNISONScotland. These posts are part of
the union's Organising Challenge initiative outlined to the
recent Scottish Council at its April meeting.
Scottish Secretary, Matt Smith, explained that the emphasis
was to maximise resources towards organisation. He explained
that the changing nature of our public services, and increased
demands placed upon activists have led to this review.
So far in Scotland, and funded through other vacancies, three
new Area Organisers and two new Local Organisers have been
appointed.
The new Area Organisers are Jennifer McCarey (formerly of
the Pay Equalities Group, and now working with the NHS G&C
branch), Yvonne Stewart (who is working part time for us and
part time as a children's reporter for SCRA) both of whom
are based in West Campbell Street and Kevin O'Neil (ex P&I
team) who is based in Belford Road.
Local organisers are Jane Fielding (Edinburgh) and Karen
Neilson (Glasgow). Additional local organiser posts will be
located in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness and
the posts will be advertised in the inFocus published on 21
May.
Scottish Secretary Matt Smith said, "The Organising Challenge
is an exciting initiative to allow UNISON to expand its organising
work. We welcome these resources in order to meet the new
challenges by increasing our organisational and recruitment
support."
