nursery nurses from across Scotland rallied on Tuesday 24 June in a national demonstration
in Glasgow to mark the successful first phase of action in support of their pay
and grading claim. New UNISON President Dave Anderson was there
(see Nursery Nurse Home Page) as well as UNISON Scottish
Secretary Matt Smith and Christina MacAnea, UNISON National Secretary Educational
Services - all to underline the level of national support. UNISON's
Scottish Secretary Matt Smith said: "The demonstration is the culmination
of the first phase of the nursery nurses action in support of their long standing
pay and grading claim. UNISON's nursery nurses are resolute, and will be determining
further action after tomorrow's march and rally. The first wave of action has
demonstrated that the nursery nurses are dedicated, hardworking and conscientious
professionals. But they will pursue their re-grading claim until they gain recognition
for their professional status, and secure fair pay". "It
is disappointing that the employer COSLA has not changed its position. UNISON
has been overwhelmed by the public support for nursery nurses. It's a shame COSLA
is failing to recognise this and moving to end the dispute". Photos
