UNISON
Briefing
What was the decision of the Nursery Nurses Delegate Meeting
re local talks?
At a Nursery Nurses Delegate Meeting held on Tuesday 20th
April, 2004 the undernoted was agreed:-
- There was a reluctant acceptance that after 11 months
of various forms of industrial action including indefinite
strike action taken from 1st March, 2004. There has not
been any movement in the employer's position who recently
have restated the position. That the grading of posts
were a matter for the individual local authorities.
- The members have sustained severe loss of earnings taking
strike action despite the financial support given by the
union. Many members have said that they can no longer afford
to be on strike but still supported the aim of the strike.
There was a high possibility that members will drift back
to work and therefore break the unity shown by members to
date.
- Nursery nurses should not continue to suffer such heavy
financial loss it would be irresponsible of the union to
allow them to do so.
- Having received the details of employer's offers, and
tjhe number of local settlements balready reached with nursery
nurses in some authorities, branches recognised that the
employers are not going to settle nationally.
- For all these reasons, reluctantly the meeting decided
that branches should enter into negotiations with their
local authority using details of settlements and offers
received to achieve the best possible local agreement.
- Report back to delegate meeting on 30 April.
