revitaliseComment from UNISON on the First Minister's comments on the Nursery Nurses dispute - 30/3/04

Carol Ball, Chair of UNISON's Nursery Nurse Working Party said "We completely agree with the First Minister that the dispute has gone on too long. UNISON has been willing to talk to CoSLA since day one, but they have consistently refused to talk to us about a Scottish resolution.

"It is however, a misreading of the situation to say that the union side of the dispute is led by a 'small number of guys' . It is UNISON's nursery nurses who have been taking the decisions all through this dispute.

"We do wonder, however, if the nursery nurse profession had been predominantley staffed by 'guys' - would they have had to put up with such low pay for so long?"
