Bill of Rights based on equality, fairness and justice

In the week that saw an apology from the British Government for
the Bloody Sunday atrocity, Conference threw its weight behind
a call from Northern Ireland Region to pressure the government
for a strong, inclusive and enforceable Bill of Rights for Northern
Ireland, to underpin the peace process and create a fair, just
and equal society.
Wholeheartedly supporting the move, Scotland's Lillian Macer
told conference that the long running campaign for equality and
human rights in Northern Ireland does not favour any one section
of society but would benefit all working class peoples, Catholic
and Protestant alike.
"It is precisely amongst working class catholics and an increasing
number of working class protestants, all living in the most deprived
areas of Northern Ireland, that inequality and division is growing,"
said Lillian.
"UNISON Scotland has long supported the strong stance of our
Northern Ireland Region in standing up for equality for all, Human
Rights for all, and particularly socio-economic rights for the
most disadvantaged."
