Local Government Service Group Conference
13-14 June 2010
Oppose cuts and put members first
|
Arthur Donnachie
|
Conference agreed a comprehensive strategy to oppose cuts to
jobs, pay and services at a local and national level.
It will provide a range of supports to activists to assist them
to protect members' jobs and to campaign against cuts to services.
It will build on the million voices campaign and the alternative
budget and will develop a bargaining agenda which will include
a minimum wage for council employees and a commitment to equalities.
A Scottish slant to the campaign was introduced by Arthur Donnachie,
Scotland Regional Delegate, who called for equitable funding for
Scotland to continue the campaigning work against the cuts we
all face. Arthur also paid tribute to Chris Bartter, who recently
retired as Scottish Communications Officer for his key role in
taking forward the Public Works campaign.
Glasgow City's amendment which would have prevented the union
campaigning against "freezes" in council tax was remitted at the
request of the Branch.
