UNISON pledged to step up its Positively Public Campaign, highlighting
the importance of public services and the role played by the people
delivering these services in laying the foundations of a fairer
society and a more sustainable economy for the future.
UNISON must arm branches and activists with the resources to
continue the fight for improved investment in public services
and to continue to rigorously resist attempts to outsource.
Tom Morrison,West Dunbartonshire Branch, highlighted the need
for unity with the community we serve, "The attack on public services
over the forthcoming years makes the unity between those providing
the services and those receiving them absolutely vital."
He explained that the local Trade Union Council, with UNISON
at its heart worked closely with the community - working with
the Unemployed Workers' Centre, holding well-attended public meetings
on a range of issues such as the Welfare Reform Bill or Trident
Replacement.
Tom explained that more recently they were in the streets protesting
against the BNP using the UNISON leaflet showing the vital role
migrant workers play in our public services.
