A Short Story for Black Children

Born to be the Queen

By Village Bumpkin

Like all little ladies; for one reason or another Samsoma never knew that she was "Born to be the Queen"! Samsoma grew up into a very pleasant young woman. She was one of those loving kind who never felt any grudge, against anybody. She was confident; perhaps she was always keen to learn – before making any move in her life.

Being a woman she was naturally very attractive to men. Simply by her feminine presence; she gradually became aware of her power to influence any man. So she decided to use this natural power sensibly – she made up her mind "to never ask for more, but to never compromise for less, in her life".

There was no shortage of men who tried to win her heart. She liked some of them, but she did not fall in love with any one. Until the day she met a confident young man called Erada. She knew Erada is not rich, but there is plenty of money in his family.

No sooner there was an eye contact … some thing happened … her heart was filled with joy … she felt Erada is the man who can truly commit himself to do whatever she want. It was not the money in Erada's family; it was Erada's confidence to take on anything unexpected, which impressed her. She knew confidence comes from knowing about things.

On Samsoma's wish Erada educated himself, and he took a good start, in a better job. He bought a place where Samsoma could live with him. He bought a bed, a sofa, carpets, curtains, furniture, and upgraded the bath and the kitchen too. He bought nice clothes, ample food and all that Samsoma ever wished.

Erada worked hard to do all what Samsoma wanted, without expecting anything in turn. Erada's selflessness commitment forced Samsoma to love him so much, that she gave Erada everything, she had to offer!

It was the power of love that shaped Samsoma's destiny. She was born to be the Queen and all her life she behaved like one. Samsoma may or may not be a rich Queen, but surely she was a powerful Queen. Her home was her empire, her man (Erada) was her strength and her children consolidated and increased her power multifolds. And until she lived; she was never dependent on anybody.
