MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY
Rally Details - Updated 9 June 2005
Although this demonstration is part of a range
of activities taking place around the G8 Summit in Gleneagles,
it is the only event being organised by the Make Poverty History
coalition and has been carefully planned over a number of
months.
Detailed information about arrangements for
July 2 along with a map of the route and assembly point can
be found in the Campaigners Guide at www.makepovertyhistory.org/docs/mobilisation.pdf.

- The rally will start at 11am in the Meadows, Edinburgh.
- There will be speeches from international figures and
celebrity supporters.
- Try to arrive early to avoid congestion.
MARCH
-
Campaigners will march around a circular
route, beginning and ending in the Meadows. To ensure
that there is a continuous flow of people, there will
be staggered starts to the march at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.
-
UNISON Scotland will attempt to assemble
with STUC affiliated unions at MUSTER POINT ‘I' at 12
noon to enable us to march at 1.00pm. It is hoped
that NEC members and those from other Regions may be able
to join us. The earlier that groups arrive the better.
There will be entertainment, speeches etc.
-
UNISON Scotland will be marching with
the Criterion Jazz band.
UNISON and STUC MATERIALS
- 200 UNISON Scotland ‘White flags will be available.
In conjunction with the TUC, the STUC are making available
small white flags with the message "Respect Workers Rights".
- The STUC will also be produced leaflets linking the
key themes of eradicating global poverty, combating the
threat of liberalisation to the UK public sector and the
importance of trade union membership.
STALLS
- UNISON will have a stall in the Marquee in the Campaign
zone.
WHITE BAND
- Wear white. By mid afternoon, the march will have encircled
the city centre, forming a giant human white band around
Edinburgh and creating a message to G8 leaders that enough
is enough.
FESTIVAL
- The festival at The Meadows will continue all afternoon,
with campaign and fair trade stalls, activities for children,
food and drink, live music, speakers and surprise big
name guests.
END
- We're aiming for one big ‘moment' at 3pm, enabling people
to start making their way home after that if they need
to. The event will finally close at 7.30pm.

to Edinburgh should be by coach or train. PLEASE, NO
