"Make no mistake, the cuts in Council budgets,
pushing up the costs in care mean a race to the
bottom between public services and private profiteers",
UNISON's Lynne Rankin told Congress.
"This is a race that starts with our members’
wages and conditions and ends with poorer standards
of care for your mother and the vulnerable in
our communities", said Lynne.
The STUC backed a call from Fife TUC to strongly
fight against this, protect the rights of the
employees, not just their terms and conditions
but their pension rights as well, and for the
"higher qualified standard of care they provide
to their clients."
Lynne added, "I’d like to thank and
endorse what Fife TUC have said in this motion
and for highlighting to Congress the plight of
our members delivering this service to the vulnerable
elderly in our communities across Scotland. A
service that should be about care – not
a service about contracts. A service about a person
in need, rather than a shareholder’s profit
or bond trader’s bonus."
