Literacies for Social Care and Health Staff
As many as one in five workers in Scotland may be struggling
with literacy and numeracy. For some of these workers, building
confidence in their writing, number and reading skills may
be the first step they want to take.
This new project hopes to target social care and health workplaces
and raise the issue both with these staff and other key workers
and reps. Funded by the Scottish Executive and supported by
the Workers' Educational Association, this UNISON led project
seeks to
· Establish and develop relationships between local Adult
Literacy and Numeracy (ALN) partnerships, UNISON branches
and social care and health employers to plan future ALN workplace
provision.
· Deliver sector-specific literacy awareness raising training
to UNISON Learning Representatives (ULRs), other branch representatives
and employer representatives in key jobs.
· Pilot a range of learning delivery and models to meet demand
stimulated by the project.
· Identify and disseminate good practice from project activities
and from existing/current work in the social care and health
sectors.
