Volunteering to recognise UNISON
After a series of hitches and false starts, Volunteer Development
Scotland has signed a recognition agreement with UNISON for
all its staff.
VDS Chief Executive, George Thomson and UNISON Regional Organiser
for the Community and Voluntary Sector, Matt McLaughlin signed
the recognition agreement at a meeting last month. Watching
them was UNISON steward in the Central Registered Body for
Scotland (CRBS), Wendy McBeth.
Matt McLaughlin said, "Originally we were told we only had
the membership density to get recognition in the CRBS part
of VDS.
"However, when the staff in the rest of the employer heard
this, a large number joined, giving us the critical mass across
the whole organisation.
"We therefore persuaded the board that we should be recognised
across the VDS."
The VDS has 68 employees in Scotland. UNISON's first job
in the organisation is to negotiate a satisfactory resolution
to the ongoing job evaluation exercise.
