Huge support for Community Service strikers
Twenty-one Glasgow Community Service members are now in
their seventh week of strike and still the Council remains
silent.
“It is clear that the employer is hell bent on sitting
this one out. They would rather keep their employees away
from work than enter into any meaningful discussions on
how to get them back”, said Mandy MacDowall, Regional Officer.
The members on strike have received huge support from across
Scotland. From MSPs to local UNISON and other TU branches,
there have been both messages of support and welcome donations
made.
“These members cannot return until the threat of pay cuts
for more duties is removed. Glasgow City Council must face
the consequences of not providing this service - clearly
they do not value the work that these members do”, added
Mandy.
The strikers have been all around Scotland meeting supporters
and branches and have also lobbied the Scottish Parliament
and the Justice Minister.
To show support for these strikers donations are very welcome
and should be sent to UNISON Glasgow City Branch, 18 Albion
Street Glasgow.
