Meeting slams ‘vitriolic’ attacks on social worker
UNISON’s Scottish Council of Branches slammed recent media
reports on a so-called ‘gay adoption’ case and the vitriolic
attacks on an individual social worker.
“The media well knows that the confidentiality laws mean
our members cannot reply to defend themselves”, delegates
were told.
The meeting also slammed the ‘homophobia’ that seemed to
be driving some of the comments. It heard that adoption
decisions cannot be made by any social worker alone and
expert panels and the courts had to agree the plans.
UNISONScotland agreed to challenge the reports and send
a message of support to the member to show her union colleagues
were standing with her.
