End discrimination of Gypsy/Travellers

UNISON Scotland has backed a move by North Ayrshire’s Colin Turbett to win formal ethnic minority status for Scotland’s Gypsies/Travellers.

Such was the discrimination faced that “most try to hide their identity” to avoid systematic discrimination and “day to day prejudice”.

He criticised press remarks made by Brian Donohoe MP and called for UNISON to campaign to have Scottish Parliament Equal Opportunities Committee recommendations on ethnic rights for Gypsy/Travellers implemented.
