Matt appointed to human rights job
UNISON Scottish Secretary Matt Smith has been appointed
a part time member of the Scottish Human Rights Commission,
the body created to promote and protect human rights in
Scotland.
He will take up his post on 1 September and is due to retire
from UNISON later this year.
Matt told SiU, “I am very much looking forward to
taking up appointment as a member of the Scottish Human
Rights Commission in September.
“The Commission, appointed by the Scottish Parliament and
part of the international network of human rights organisations
has the support of Scotland’s trades unions. “Alongside
a range of other work, the SHRC will provide me with the
opportunity to work in key areas after I leave UNISON later
this year.”
