Campaigning can now be delivered direct to branches
A successful pilot campaigning course in Shetland is to lead
to Branches all being offered the chance to run the course
over one or two days.
The course, developed from a strategic campaigning course
devised by the union's Learning and Organising section, has
been cut down so that it can be delivered in a shorter time
frame.
Communications Officer Chris Bartter, who delivered the course
in Shetland, said, "A combination of the fact that all students
are in the one branch, and some judicious pruning of the course
has meant that it takes less time to run with one branch than
with students from a variety of branches."
The course was so successful that the students stayed on
at the end to continue to work on the campaign they had picked
for training purposes - trying to get it to a stage where
they could turn it into a full branch campaign.
Tracey Leith, Shetland Branch Education Officer said, "We
all think we can take part in a campaign but what this course
does is to set out the steps you must take to give it more
chance of success."
If branches want to discuss running a course, please phone
or email Chris at 0141 342 2877 c.bartter@unison.co.uk. In
addition the Communications Committee will be running the
Campaigning Course on a Scottish-wide basis from 3-5 October.
