Council Workers National Strike
PRESS & MEDIA EVENT
Various locations - Lothian & Borders*
Monday 22nd Sept 2008
On Monday 22/9/08, UNISON will stage a "Cost of Living Race” in
the backyard of Councillor Michael Cook. Cllr Cook is the leader
of the CoSLA negotiating team that refuses to increase the 2.5%
pay offer to local government staff despite spiralling inflation
and increased living costs. As illustrated above the ‘race' will
involve various assorted foodstuffs, housing and fuel costs outstripping
the pay of the poor local government worker.
UNISON is taking their Campaign for Fair Pay to Cllr Michael Cook's
ward to bring home to him the growing gulf between council wages
and basic living costs. You are invited to attend the event and
witness the CoSLA Olympics. Strike leaders will be available for
comment in advance and throughout Monday.
Please contact Peter Hunter (below) to confirm arrangements.
