Press Release from UNISON Shetland
93% reject Shetland single status offer!
At noon today the result of UNISON ballot on Shetland Island's
Council's single status offer was announced by union staff in Aberdeen.
926 ballot papers went out, and 687 were returned: a return of
74%.
Of the 687 no fewer than 640 members voted to REJECT (93%) 44 voted
to ACCEPT (6.5%). 3 papers were spoiled.
Branch chairperson Brian Smith said: 'The overwhelming No vote
shows exactly what Unison members think of the offer. The council
offered our members less money for working more hours, and needn't
be surprised that 93% of them said No thank you. 'The council must
now go back to the negotiating table and start from scratch.'
