Scotland's largest union calls for vote to oppose Trident
UNISON - Scotland's public service union - today issued a call
for Scots MPs to join the vote against the renewal of the Trident
missile system in this afternoon's House of Commons debate.
Matt Smith, UNISON's Scottish Secretary, said "Our members know
that the huge costs of replacing weapons of mass destruction like
Trident missiles take up large amounts of public funds that could
otherwise be used to revitalise our public services.
"If you add to these financial arguments the moral arguments against
us storing these nuclear weapons, it is no wonder the Scottish population
is opposed to this renewal. UNISON calls on MPs to vote not to renew
these missiles today. "
