Social care staff strike continues
The strike of over 550 social care workers in Glasgow is to continue
after talks adjourned with no resolution today.
Mike Kirby, UNISON Glasgow Branch Convenor said "There was no offer
on the table that would have resolved the immediate dispute, but
we agreed to continue the talks on Monday."
The workers, who are angry about the results of a job evaluation
that doesn't reflect the responsibilities of the job they carry
out, have been on strike since Tuesday of this week. They meet tomorrow.
Mike Kirby says that there is evidence that more staff are joining
the strike. "Rather than the misinformation about lack of support
put out by the employers," he said "The evidence is that more staff
are joining the strike, so we now have over 90% of those affected
out."

Note for editors: The Fieldwork Social Care Workers voted
by 96% for action short of a strike. In a second ballot they voted
by 87% for strike action.
