Social care staff action postponed

The action planned by 600 Social Care staff in Glasgow in a dispute over job-grading has been postponed until a mass meeting of the staff on Tuesday, UNISON said today.

Ronnie Stevenson, UNISON' s Glasgow Convenor of Social Work stewards said "Instead of rushing to the negotiating table, the council have rushed to the courts to use the anti-trade union laws. At the eleventh hour they threaten to force staff to choose between striking or taking no action by legally challenging any action short of strike.

"We intend to put this new threat to our members on Tuesday and have therefore postponed any action until after that meeting.

"It is bizarre that the trade union is suggesting that valuable caring staff should carry on doing at least part of their jobs, whilst the council employers try to force a strike, which will cut the support for the most vulnerable."
