UNISON PRESSES FOR SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE FUNDING
Aberdeen City UNISON, the largest union within Aberdeen City Council
will tomorrow morning (23rd August) press Aberdeen City Council
to jointly campaign with UNISON for Scottish Executive funding of
equal pay in local government.
Aberdeen City UNISON has previously criticised the Scottish Executive
for its continued failure to fund equal pay.
"The silence of the Executive is deafening", said joint Branch
Secretary Karen Donnelly. "Our Branch has already written to all
of the Aberdeen MSPs and many of our members have done likewise.
The Scottish Executive has a responsibility to local government
which it cannot ignore."
UNISON has placed the issue of Scottish Executive funding on the
Agenda for Aberdeenšs Local Government Employees Joint Consultative
Committee (JCC) to be held in the Town House on 23rd August 2005
at 9:30am.
"It is essential that the ruling political Administration of the
Council joins UNISON in its campaign, which is why we have placed
this matter on the JCC agenda" went on Karen Donnelly.
"We firmly believe that it is in the best interests of all concerned,
including those who pay Council Tax and use Council services that
a concerted effort is made to bring the Scottish Executive into
this debate and that the Council must be part of that effort"
Ends.

by approx. 10.30 am and representatives of the Branch will be available
to answer questions following that meeting.
