Mon 29 Mar 04 If CoSLA won't come to the table...? Over 2,000
Nursery nurses will march through Edinburgh today (Monday) to deliver a message
to CoSLA that they should re-open talks. The nursery nurses will bring their own
negotiating table with them, so that they can urge CoSLA to sit down at it! Carol
Ball (Chair of UNISON's Nursery Nurse Working Party) said: "CoSLA has consistently
refused to come to the table and negotiate a Scotland-wide deal, so we thought
we would bring the table to them. This demonstration shows that nursery nurses
are not going away and we will stick together to win this dispute." The
demonstration will assemble at Atholl Crescent (off Shandwick Place) in Edinburgh
at 12 noon, marching off at 12.30pm to the CoSLA offices at Haymarket. After a
brief stop there to deliver letters (and the table!) the demonstration will move
off to rally at the UNISON office at Belford Road. Joe Di Paola (UNISON's
Scottish Organiser - Local Government) said: "Whilst this demonstration will be
good-humoured, the employers should not doubt the seriousness with which our members
are pursuing this dispute. It is long past time that CoSLA should be negotiating.
They clearly care more about the political totem of local negotiations, than they
do about the services that our nursery nurses provide" ENDS [Note
to Editors: Nursery nurses and Rally speakers will be available for photos
and comments before and after the demo. The table will be carried on the demo
and placed in front of the CoSLA offices - inviting their negotiators to sit at
it!] For Further Information Please Contact: Joe DiPaola(Scottish
