Thur 18 Mar 2004 Nursery nurses go Forth to cross boundaries -even if
CoSLA doesn't want their pay to!! Some of UNISON's striking nursery nurses
in the Lothians and Fife are taking part in a walk across the Forth Road Bridge
- crossing the Edinburgh/Fife council boundary tomorrow (Friday), in order to
demonstrate the absurdity of local settlements, and to re-emphasise their solidarity
in striking for a national settlement. Nursery nurses from Edinburgh, Mid,
East and West Lothian Councils (from the South) and Fife Council (from the North)
will set off across the Forth at the same time and meet each other in the middle.
The nursery nurses will assemble at South Queensferry car park side of the Forth
Road Bridge and North Queensferry side at 10.00am to walk across bridge at 10.30am
on Friday 19 March 2004 and hopefully meet in the middle! Barbara Foubister
(a striking nursery nurse from Edinburgh City) said "We are demonstrating that
nursery nurses are the same across borders - a nursery nurse is the same in Fife
as in the Lothians. That's why they need a national settlement. We are also showing
how united we are." It is thought that this may be the start of a number
of cross-border events. ENDS [Note to Editors and Photo Editors:
The nursery nurses will be available for interview and photographs at both sides
of the Forth Road Bridge from 10.00am and in the middle when they meet (as long
as you don't make them cause an obstruction.) For Further Information
