"UNISON has become increasingly concerned to
ensure that its registered nurse, midwife and health visitor members
are reminded of their professional responsibilities to the UKCC
(See UKCC Advice)
Amongst these responsibilities is a duty to:
11. report to an appropriate person or authority,
having regard to the physical, psychological and social effects
on patients and clients, any circumstances in the environment
of care which could jeopardise standards of practice;
12. report to an appropriate person or authority
any circumstances in which safe and appropriate care for patients
and clients cannot be provided;
13. report to an appropriate person or authority
where it appears that the health or safety of colleagues is at
risk, as such circumstances may compromise standards of practice
and care;
(Clauses 11, 12 and 13 ofUKCC Code of Professional
Conduct)
The reason this is significant is that if an untoward
incident occurs it is wise to have any of your previous concerns
about staffing levels etc "on the record".
Please remember that, whilst your accountability
to the UKCC is individual and personal, we would strongly suggest
you consult your local UNISON branch in the first instance for
advice prior to filling in this form.
This initiative is part of UNISON's ongoing commitment
to the professional interests of its nurse, midwife and health
visitor members."
