Pay: Local Government faces first test

The first test for local government employers' commitment to the Scottish bargaining system they insisted on is due as SiU goes to press, writes John Stevenson.

"The indications are that they will not make an offer at our meeting with them on 23 February", said Dougie Black, UNISON Scottish Local Government Chair.

"If that is the case we can only assume they are waiting for an English offer on 29 February - and that will mean the employers have fallen at the very first hurdle".

The Scottish claim for 100,000 workers is £500 or 5% whichever is the greater.
