Health pay ballot closes 6 June

by Chris Bartter

Members in Scotland's NHS are being asked to vote on the pay proposals outlined in the last Scotland inUNISON in an all members' ballot from 15 May to 6 June. The Scottish Health Committee is urging members to vote in the ballot.

Sandra-Dee Masson, Vice Chair of the SHC, said, "It is vital we maximise the turnout in the ballot and get a strong response from members on what they think of these crucial proposals."

Mike Jackson, UNISON's Senior National Officer, re-affirmed the UK Conference policy to conduct the ballot, at the recent Scottish Health Seminar. There was no national recommendation being offered after a tight debate at the conference in Manchester, and he stressed the requirement to pursue effective industrial action to seek improvements if the package is rejected. Scottish Branches are currently considering their positions and engaging with members over the ballot period. Members should enquire from their branch for advice.

Campaigning materials have been issued to branches and a period of recruitment is underway. Non-members can secure a vote if they join by 3 June 2008. The ballot closes on 6 June.
