East Lothian moves to ballot

As we were going to press, news was beginning to come through of an industrial action ballot in East Lothian Council.

After the dispute in Argyll & Bute, attempts to impose cuts in conditions in East Lothian as part of the Single Status debate, was being resisted strongly by the branch.

Sandra Kennie, East Lothian's Branch Secretary, said, "The council is demanding that UNISON members work Monday - Sunday, with no enhancements for Saturday or Sunday.

" The Leader of the Council says he wants services to be available to the residents of East Lothian at a time suitable for them, and Monday - Sunday should be part of the normal working week. Would he do it without any enhancement?

"East Lothian Council see themselves as an employer of choice - the choice is take it or leave it".
