Parliament Opener sings for Peace in Dundee
Sheena Wellington, who sang at the opening ceremony of the Scottish
Parliament, in July 1999 is to sing at a Peace Festival in Dundee
on Friday 21 - International Peace Day.
The all day festival has been organised by the Dundee Branch
of UNISON, the public service union, and will start at 11.00 am
in the City Square - continuing until 5.00pm and then at a social
event in the Hubara (Craigtay Hotel) at 7.30pm.
Karen Grogan, Dundee UNISON's International officer said "We
are planning to have a number of stalls from different organisations
on the Square with a range of speakers intertwined with live music
from local community groups"
Also 'performing' on the day will be former Dundee MSP and now
Oxfam campaigner John McAllion - who is speaking in the square
between 12 noon and 2.00pm.
Other speakers include Sophia MacLeod of the Scottish Palestine
Solidarity Campaign. Rory Malone of UNISON and speakers from Dundee's
Social Forum, the Iona Community and political parties.
There will be stalls from a large variety of organisations including:

* WORLD DEVELOPMENT MOVEMENT * SCOTTISH PALESTINE SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGN

CUBA SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGN - IRAQ UNION SOLIDARITY SCOTLAND * SCOTLAND
AGAINST CRIMINALISING COMMUNITIES
Karen said "It is great that UNISON can ensure that all these
campaign groups, musicians and speakers can get together and increase
awareness of the need for peace in different communities across
the globe. "We are hoping that this day will not only promote
peace at home and abroad, but forge valuable links for future
joint campaigning."
