Email your MSP for better buses!
Bus
services in Scotland are not good enough. There has been a
failure in the market forces which have dominated the bus
industry since de-regulation in 1986. It's time for a fairer
deal on buses.
That’s why Charlie Gordon MSP Scottish Labour Transport Spokesperson,
has lodged his proposal for the Regulation of Bus Services
(Scotland) Bill. The Bill will make it easier for local councils
to step in and regulate services by putting franchises for
local bus services out to tender. UNISON Scotland's
Disabled Members Committee is supporting the Bill.
The Bill will also extend free bus travel to people on the
lower rate of Disability Living Allowance, as well as allowing
community transport to accept free bus passes. Around £300
million of public money in Scotland goes to support bus services.
We are all entitled to a better say on bus services and standards.
Regulation will give us that say.
Charlie needs your help in gaining support for his Bill
in the Scottish Parliament. To make the Bill go forward, he
needs the support of 18 MSPs from two of the other major parties
at Holyrood.
You can do two things to help:-
1. Please sign the petition at www.scottishlabour.org.uk/bus
and get your friends to as well.
2. Take a few moments to contact your local AND regional
MSPs and urge them to support the Bill.
You can send a message to all your MSPs at the following
link: http://www.writetothem.com
urging them to support the Regulation of Bus Services (Scotland)
Bill.
